Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re new to chiropractic care, you likely have questions about this natural and effective form of health care. Here are some of the most common queries we get and our answers. We look forward to helping you elevate your health and wellness!

Is Chiropractic Care Safe?

Yes! Chiropractors use non-invasive techniques to adjust the spine and other joints to improve mobility, relieve pain, and support the body’s natural healing abilities. As with any medical or therapeutic treatment, there are potential risks and contraindications; at Lifeway Chiropractic and Wellness, we prioritize your safety by taking the time to understand your complaint and medical history. This ensures that chiropractic care is a safe and appropriate option for your specific needs.

What Should I Expect at Your Office?

You’ll be asked to fill out paperwork in person or online when you arrive. Our friendly front office staff will greet you and take a copy of your identification card and insurance information, if being used. You’ll then be given a quick tour as you head to the examination room. A doctor will meet you there, review your medical history and current complaint, explain what to expect from chiropractic care, and perform a full examination. Treatment is often provided on the first day.

Can I Fill Out Intake Forms Online?

Yes, we offer online paperwork that can be emailed, texted, or sent as a URL for you to fill out at your convenience. If you prefer, you can also complete the paperwork in person at our office.

What Should I Wear to My Appointment?

You can wear whatever is comfortable for you! Keep in mind that we may be performing examinations that require some movement, so it’s a good idea to wear clothing that allows for easy movement.

What Adjusting Methods Do You Use?

At Lifeway Chiropractic and Wellness, we use various techniques tailored to your needs, including Activator, Drop Table, Diversified manual adjustments, and mobilization techniques. We determine the most appropriate approach based on your situation and preference. Our techniques range from extremely gentle yet effective to more direct approaches that are still safe and comfortable for you.

Can I Use Insurance?

Yes, at our practice, we accept most major insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. We also accept cash, HSA, and FSA benefits for payment. We will run a benefits confirmation to determine what your insurance covers regarding care at our
office. Our team will work with you to understand your coverage and ensure you receive the maximum benefit from your insurance plan.

What’s That Cracking Sound?

The popping or cracking sound you may hear during an adjustment is the release of gas or air from the joint space, a phenomenon known as cavitation. This sound indicates that we have achieved the desired movement within the joint. It’s a normal and harmless occurrence that indicates the joint has been mobilized. Rest assured that your bones are not cracking or breaking!

It’s also important to note that not all techniques produce a popping sound. Gentler, low-force approaches often do not create any noise, but they are still effective at improving motion and mobility in the joint.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

Your chiropractic care needs can depend on various factors, such as your health, the severity of your condition, and your response to treatment. Our chiropractors provide a tailored plan after a detailed examination. Some patients may see immediate improvement, while others might need continuous care.

Typically, we will recommend an initial series of visits close together to address immediate issues and then gradually reduce the frequency of visits as symptoms improve. After the initial phase of care, some people choose to continue with periodic maintenance visits to maintain spinal health and prevent future issues. Lifeway Chiropractic and Wellness also emphasizes lifetime wellness as a self-care routine for your body.

Will the Adjustment Hurt?

Although chiropractic adjustments may cause some discomfort or pressure, they are generally pain-free. They often result in immediate relief and enhanced mobility. Open communication with your chiropractor during the process can further ensure your comfort.

Are There Any Side Effects to Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractic care is considered safe, with few side effects. Some people may experience mild ones such as temporary soreness, stiffness, or fatigue following an adjustment. However, these effects are usually mild and short-lived, resolving in a day or two. More serious side effects may occur in rare cases, but at our practice, your health and safety are our number one priority. We take a detailed history to determine if you are at a higher risk of any serious side effects.

Is Chiropractic Care Suitable for Children And Older Adults?

Yes! Chiropractic care is suitable for people of all ages, from newborns to seniors. At our office, we provide care for all age groups. For kids, chiropractic care can help with issues like colic, tongue ties, ear infections, and sports injuries while improving overall health. For older adults, chiropractic care can address concerns such as arthritis, joint pain, and mobility. Our approach is always tailored to each patient, considering their age, health status, and specific needs.

How Is Neuropathy Treated?

We take a multi-modality approach and look at neuropathy from multiple different perspectives, considering the nerves, blood flow, inflammation, and spinal health. Our treatment methods range from spine and extremity adjustments to nerve rebuilding and stimulation and enhancing blood flow to the extremities.

We also emphasize nutrition and reducing inflammation in the gut and body to speed up healing. The treatment involves both in-office and at-home care, with office visits ranging from once a week to once a month, depending on symptom severity.

What Specialized Techniques Do Your Chiropractors Use to Treat Pregnant Women?

Our chiropractors are trained in the Webster Technique, which is specifically designed for pregnant patients. This gentle technique focuses on reducing intra-uterine constraints, enhancing motion in the pelvis, and working on surrounding ligaments and muscles. This approach helps both the baby and mom to be more comfortable.

How Do You Address Personal Injury Cases?

We approach personal injury cases by focusing on the skeletal and muscular systems. Our techniques could include massage, acupuncture, chiropractic care, specific exercises, stretches, and laser therapy. Prompt care after an injury is crucial to restore and maintain movement in the affected area.

How Is Acupuncture Integrated Into Chiropractic Care, and What Are the Benefits?

Acupuncture and chiropractic care are complementary approaches targeting the muscular and nervous systems. By integrating them, the overall effectiveness of treatment is increased, often resulting in faster healing times and improved body function. This holistic and conservative approach allows patients to benefit from dual care.
